Doctors In Store - About Us

Doctors In Store was initially founded in 2007 to provide a collaborative relationship between NHS and the stores. The concept was founded by Dr Mohammed Jiva, a General Practitioner in Middleton to allow local residents to undertake a number of activities under one roof from shopping to undertaking a GP consultation to dispensing any prescriptions.

Sainsbury's Heaton Park Manchester was the first store to declare an interest in a joint venture to establish in store NHS services, allowing Doctors In Store to engage with local GPs  to provide their own patients and patients of neighbouring practices with a full comprehensive service including consultations with access to the patients full medical records, arranging diagnostic test and referrals when appropriate to specialists in other services. The consultation would be recorded at the patients own GP practice using the IT connections between Sainsbury's and the patient's GP practice.

The in store extended hours services are developed to compliment and support local GP practices, in allowing the changing needs of the local population be addressed in provision of additional appointments at a convenient time and location.
